Born in Kenya in 1984, Kipchoge's career began with success on the track, including winning gold in the 5000 meters at the 2003 World Championships. However, it is in the marathon where he cemented his legacy. Kipchoge has won numerous major marathons, including the London Marathon four times and the Berlin Marathon five times. In 2018, he set the official marathon world record in Berlin with a time of 2:01:39, a record he improved to 2:01:09 in 2022.

Kipchoge’s most iconic achievement came in 2019 when he became the first person to run a marathon in under two hours during the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, clocking 1:59:40.
