Abdiya Sheikh Hassan Abdirahaman

Abdiya was honoured for her exemplary and tireless role in peacebuilding in Mandera County, a region that has often faced challenges of insecurity, clan conflicts, and cultural barriers to development. Throughout her career, she has devoted herself to promoting peacebuilding and conflict management, working closely with communities to resolve disputes through dialogue and mutual understanding. Her efforts have been instrumental in reducing tensions and fostering trust among warring factions.

Beyond peace work, Abdiya is a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment and girl child education, challenging traditional norms that hinder the progress of women and girls in Somali and pastoral communities. She has championed anti-Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) campaigns, raising awareness on its harmful effects and mobilizing both men and women to support its eradication.

Her initiatives have created platforms for women to participate in decision-making processes and take active roles in community development. Through her work, she has become an agent of stability, social cohesion, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence in the region. Abdiya’s vision and leadership continue to inspire many, making her a beacon of hope for a more peaceful, equitable, and inclusive Mandera County.
