Alex Muriu
Alex Muriu is a Kenyan entrepreneur and agri-investment innovator dedicated to transforming small-scale farming into a profitable and sustainable venture. His entrepreneurial journey began at university, where he successfully ran a computer hardware shop while exploring other business opportunities. In 2013, a chance conversation with a farmer exposed him to the critical challenge of limited access to finance for smallholder farmers—a gap he later discovered to be worth over $1 billion annually in Kenya’s agricultural sector.
Motivated to create change, Muriu founded Farm Capital Africa in 2014, an agri-investment company that bridges the financing gap for young farmers aged 25 to 35. The firm connects high-potential farmers with investors, enabling them to access much-needed expansion capital through a unique profit-and-loss sharing model. This innovative approach reduces financial risk while empowering farmers to scale their agricultural ventures sustainably.
Through Farm Capital Africa, Muriu has already helped farmers raise over $100,000, directly boosting productivity, incomes, and food security. His work not only empowers farmers but also inspires confidence in agribusiness as a viable investment avenue. By turning small-scale farmers into agri-preneurs, Muriu is driving inclusive growth in Kenya’s agriculture sector and redefining how finance fuels rural development.
