Alexander Otieno

Alexander Otieno Oketch is a Kenyan biomedical-engineer-turned-executive who steers GE HealthCare’s strategy for East Africa, a territory spanning 12 countries and more than 300 million people. Since joining GE in 2017 and rising to Regional General Manager, he has directed multimodal projects that pair cutting-edge imaging, monitoring and digital platforms with local manufacturing and training. Under his watch GE has installed over 1,400 diagnostic devices, rolled out cloud-based radiology workstations in county hospitals, and launched Kenya’s first vendor-agnostic ultrasound academy, which has certified 600 sonographers.

Oketch is a champion of blended-finance models that unlock private capital for public facilities. He co-designed the US $70 million AfyaTek leasing programme, enabling 60 rural hospitals to acquire CT, MRI and ICU equipment with service contracts and telemaintenance baked in, cutting downtime by 35 percent. A trusted policy voice, he sits on Kenya’s National Advisory Committee for Medical Equipment Management and helped craft the 2024 East African Community (EAC) Medical Devices Harmonisation Framework, streamlining approvals across seven nations.

Passionate about talent development, Oketch mentors STEM students through the Africa Engineering Hub and sponsors biomedical-technician apprenticeships that place graduates in county referral hospitals. His mission is clear: fuse technology, financing and local expertise to deliver world-class care within reach of every East African patient.
