Alice Kerubo Manyura

Alice Kerubo Manyura is a Kenyan human-resources practitioner turned community first-aid champion. After losing her six-month-old daughter, Amara, to a choking incident in 2019, she founded the Amara Initiative, a Nairobi-based nonprofit that equips parents, teachers, and faith leaders with life-saving skills. Partnering with St John Ambulance and the Kenya Red Cross, the initiative deploys certified emergency-medical instructors who teach infant CPR, Heimlich techniques, and basic trauma care in English and Kiswahili.

What began as weekend classes in church halls has grown into a mobile training network spanning eleven counties. By mid-2025 the Amara Initiative had trained 9,200 individuals, installed 420 first-aid stations in schools, and rolled out an SMS refresher service that sends step-by-step instructions during emergencies. A new e-learning portal launched in February 2025 allows diaspora parents to access video modules and earn a digital first-responder badge accredited by the National Industrial Training Authority.

Alice holds a BCom in Human Resource Management from Kenyatta University and spent a decade in corporate HR before dedicating herself full-time to the nonprofit in 2023. Named to Business Daily’s Top 40 Under 40 Women list (2024), she now lobbies for mandatory first-aid certification for all early-childhood educators and mentors grief-support groups, determined that no family should suffer preventable loss again.
