Anne Joy Michira

Anne Joy Michira is a Kenyan brand architect whose 17-year career in fast-moving consumer goods has stretched from Nairobi boardrooms to global strategy tables in London. A University of Nairobi Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) graduate, she joined East African Breweries Ltd. (EABL) in 2008 as a graduate trainee and rose through trade marketing, innovation, and category-lead roles to become Head of Marketing for Beer and later Spirits.

At EABL she rejuvenated flagships Tusker Lager and Pilsner, doubled Johnnie Walker value share, and steered the “Only the Best for the Champion” campaign that earned EABL its first Cannes Lion (Bronze, 2021) for the low-cost Senator brand. Her portfolio innovations include Tusker Cider and Baileys Delights which generated more than KES 12 billion in incremental revenue between 2016 and 2022.

In 2023 Michira relocated to London to become Marketing & Innovations Director for Diageo’s South, West & Central Africa (SWC) business, overseeing 20 markets from Ghana to Mozambique. She now directs a US $150 million annual A&P budget, spearheading digital commerce, no- and low-alcohol launches, and a continent-wide regenerative-barley sourcing programme aligned to Diageo’s Society 2030 ESG ambitions.

Named to Business Daily’s Top 40 Under 40 list in 2019, Michira mentors women in marketing through the WIM Africa network and sits on the advisory board of Nairobi-based accelerator Adanian Labs, championing African creativity on the world stage.
