Anthony Gakuru

Anthony Gakuru is a partner in the corporate, commercial and M&A practice of ENSafrica Nairobi, where he advises multinationals, private-equity funds and tech companies on cross-border transactions. Admitted to the Kenyan Bar in 2012, he holds an LL.B. from the University of Nairobi and an LL.M. in International Business Law from King’s College London, completed while on secondment to Allen & Overy. He joined ENS in 2020 after seven years with a Kenyan firm and was promoted to partner in 2023, becoming one of the youngest practice heads in the firm’s pan-African network.

In the past three years he has led deals worth more than USD 2.5 billion, including Safaricom’s USD 250 million acquisition of a payments processor, a USD 600 million renewable-energy joint venture backed by an American pension fund, and the USD 120 million Series C raise for logistics-tech Sendy. Chambers Global 2025 ranks him Band 2 for Corporate/M&A, IFLR1000 lists him as “Highly Regarded,” and Legal 500 names him a Next Generation Partner. Anthony co-chairs the Law Society of Kenya’s fintech taskforce, mentors female lawyers through the Pamoja Initiative, and frequently writes on digital-currency regulation, most recently co-authoring a 2025 white paper on central-bank digital shillings.
