Bagha Hussein Mohammed Afzal Yusuf

Dr. Bagha was honoured for his remarkable and enduring contribution to the research and treatment of kidney ailments in Kenya and beyond. A highly respected nephrologist, he has been instrumental in advancing kidney care through innovation, policy formulation, and professional leadership. Notably, he chaired the national task force that developed Kenya’s first-ever kidney transplant guidelines, which were officially launched in 2020, setting a new benchmark for clinical practice and improving patient outcomes.

As a dedicated scholar and researcher, Dr. Bagha serves as the principal investigator for the “I Care Me Registry” and the “Anti-Microbial Resistance Study,” both critical initiatives in improving kidney disease management and combating emerging health threats. His expertise is recognized internationally, and he serves as an external examiner for examinations organized by the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in the UK.

Beyond his clinical and academic work, Dr. Bagha plays a pivotal role in uniting kidney specialists in the country as the Secretary General of the Kenya Renal Association, the umbrella body for nephrologists and kidney care professionals. Through his leadership, research, and advocacy, he continues to shape the future of nephrology and transform lives through better kidney health care.
