Barbara Omondi
Barbara Omondi is a Kenyan corporate-finance specialist whose analytical rigor and strategic insight have shaped multibillion-shilling portfolios across East Africa. Trained as an economist and ACCA-qualified accountant, she cut her teeth in ship-finance research before joining a leading pan-African investment bank, where she now managers a KSh 60 billion book spanning shipping, project, leveraged and commercial-real-estate deals.
Omondi leads end-to-end risk governance: structuring term sheets, modelling cash-flow waterfalls, tracking construction milestones, and running quarterly covenant-and-collateral reviews that keep non-performing exposures under two percent, well below industry averages. Her stress-testing framework for energy and logistics projects was adopted group-wide in 2024 and is credited with saving KSh 780 million in potential write-downs during the shilling’s recent volatility.
A passionate advocate for sustainable finance, she spearheaded the bank’s first green-warehouse facility, aligning it to IFC EDGE standards and Kenya’s proposed taxonomy. Recognised in Business Daily’s Top 40 Under 40 Women (2021), Omondi represents Kenya as a One Young World Ambassador, mentoring girls in STEM through Akili Dada and advising the National Treasury’s ESG-disclosure task-force.
Whether training junior analysts or negotiating complex syndications, Barbara Omondi continues to prove that disciplined, purpose-led finance can unlock resilient growth for Kenya and the wider African continent.
