Bryan Cuthbert
Bryan Cuthbert is a Kenyan agribusiness entrepreneur and third-generation steward of Doinyo Lessos Creameries, a dairy processor nestled on the lush slopes of Nandi County. Established by his grandfather in 1973 and famed for its artisanal Gouda and Cheddar, the creamery has supplied school canteens, hotels, and Nairobi delicatessens for five decades. After earning a degree in Food Science from Egerton University and completing a stint at a Dutch cheese co-operative, Bryan returned home in 2014 to modernise the family plant without losing its heritage.
He has doubled daily intake to 90,000 litres by contracting 3,200 smallholder farmers and guaranteeing prompt mobile-money payments and free veterinary support. A new pasteuriser and solar-powered cold room cut spoilage by 25 percent, while a whey-to-biogas digester now fuels 60 percent of factory operations. In 2023 Bryan launched Lessos Gold, a premium aged cheese that clinched bronze at the Africa Dairy Awards and entered supermarkets in Uganda and Rwanda.
Beyond the factory gates he chairs the Nandi Dairy Farmers’ Association, lobbies for quality-based milk pricing, and runs weekend cheese-making workshops that have trained 500 youth. Bryan’s vision is clear: turn Doinyo Lessos into East Africa’s flagship farmhouse dairy while uplifting every farmer in its supply chain.
