Catherine Asemeit Omasete
Catherine Asemeit Omasete is a Kenyan risk-management authority who heads Standards & Technical Services at the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK). With more than 15 years’ experience spanning banking, insurance and policy, she drives the development and adoption of IFRS, IPSAS and sustainability-reporting guidance for 27,000 Kenyan CPAs. Omasete leads ICPAK’s technical responses to the International Accounting Standards Board, represents Kenya at the World Standard-Setters Conference and the International Forum of Accounting Standard Setters, and serves on the Pan-African Federation of Accountants’ public-sector accounting committee.
She chairs the FiRe Award Technical Committee, which reviews over 200 submissions each year and has raised financial-reporting standards across the East African Community. As a member of the Council of Governors’ Audit Committee she advises county administrations on enterprise-risk frameworks, control remediation and forensic reviews that have recovered KES 1.3 billion since 2021.
Previously, Omasete held senior audit and risk posts at KCB Bank and Jubilee Insurance, where she rolled out Basel II compliance programmes and aligned risk dashboards. A Fellow of ICPAK, Certified Risk Professional (IRM-UK) and Certified Internal Auditor, she mentors young accountants through the Women in Audit Network and was named to Business Daily’s Top 40 Under 40 Women list in 2023.
