Chief Ngoleyo Wero Tomele

Chief Ngoleyo Wero Tomele was a respected Pokot elder who played a vital role in Kenya’s early liberation struggle. He resisted British colonial rule through spiritual leadership and became a key figure in the Dini ya Msambwa movement. His deep faith and courage inspired his community to stand firm against oppression and defend African identity.

As a devoted follower of Dini ya Msambwa, Chief Ngoleyo promoted unity, dignity, and indigenous leadership. He taught that freedom began with self-respect and faith in African traditions. His message encouraged people to reject colonial domination and remain proud of their culture. Through his leadership, he helped preserve the values that defined his community long before colonial influence.

Chief Ngoleyo’s defiance came at a great cost. During the 1950 Kolloa Massacre, he lost his life while standing up for justice and the freedom of his people. His sacrifice transformed him into a martyr whose story continues to inspire generations.

Today, Chief Ngoleyo Wero Tomele is remembered as a symbol of spiritual courage and national pride. His unwavering belief in African identity and freedom reminds Kenyans that independence was won not only through war, but also through faith, resilience, and cultural strength.
