Dr. Chris Kiptoo CBS

Dr. Chris Kiptoo CBS was honored for his remarkable contribution to environmental conservation and sustainable community development. Recognizing the urgent need to address deforestation and environmental degradation, he founded the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Program (KICP), a community-driven initiative focused on restoring the Kaptagat forest ecosystem. Under his visionary leadership, KICP has become a model for environmental stewardship, combining ecological restoration with socio-economic empowerment. The program emphasizes active community participation, ensuring that conservation efforts directly benefit local livelihoods and foster long-term sustainability.

Through KICP, over 2,765 hectares of degraded forest land have been rehabilitated, significantly enhancing biodiversity and ecological resilience in the region. The project has also promoted climate-smart agriculture and the planting of more than 300,000 high-value avocado trees, which have generated income for over 28,000 households. In addition, KICP encourages the adoption of eco-friendly farming practices and clean energy solutions, reducing pressure on forest resources and mitigating the effects of climate change.

Dr. Kiptoo’s efforts have not only rejuvenated the Kaptagat ecosystem but also inspired similar conservation movements across the country. His work stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between science, community engagement, and environmental responsibility in securing a greener, more sustainable future for Kenya.
