Claire Nasike

Claire Nasike Akello is a distinguished Kenyan agroecologist and environmental advocate serving as the Global Advisor for Climate Resilient Livelihoods at Christian Aid. She holds an MSc in Agroecosystems Management from the University of Nairobi and graduated with first-class honours in Environmental Resource Management from the Technical University of Kenya.

Before joining Christian Aid, Claire founded the Hummingbird Foundation, an initiative rooted in empowering communities through ecological farming and sustainable land practices. Her leadership extended to amplifying environmental justice as Regional Coordinator for the Global Landscapes Forum and spearheading high-impact campaigns, including Greenpeace Africa’s “Seed is Sovereign” project to safeguard farmers’ seed freedoms.

Claire’s early promise was recognized in 2015 when she received the Wangari Maathai Scholarship Award for her conservation work in Budalang’i, Busia County. Known for championing indigenous knowledge and youth-led adaptation strategies, she cultivates bottom-up climate resilience through community-based training and advocacy. A featured speaker at AidEx Nairobi 2025, Claire contributed her expertise on building regional climate resilience during a panel on innovative solutions in East Africa.

Through her multifaceted roles—spanning grassroots activism, policy advocacy, and strategic advisory—Claire continues to shape sustainable environments and livelihood systems, reinforcing the vital role of inclusive adaptation in a rapidly changing climate.
