Senator Crystal Asige is one of Kenya’s most dynamic public figures, an accomplished artist, disability rights advocate, and trailblazing legislator. Nominated to the Senate to represent persons with disabilities, youth, and creatives, Crystal has emerged as a bold and authentic voice in both policy and cultural spaces. Diagnosed with glaucoma in her teens, she lost her sight gradually, but turned her journey into fuel for purpose, challenging societal perceptions of disability through both her music and political work.
Before joining the Senate, Crystal made her mark as an award-winning singer-songwriter and performer, blending Swahili rhythms with personal storytelling. Her music and public speaking engagements became platforms for awareness and activism, setting the foundation for her current role in public service. As a Senator, she has championed critical legislation focused on disability inclusion, including proposals for tax relief for caregivers, strengthened protections in education and employment, and the advancement of sign language and accessibility standards.
