Daniel Owino Misiani
Daniel Misiani, popularly known as D.O. Misiani, was honoured as the founding father of Benga music, a genre that revolutionized East African music. He led the iconic Shirati Jazz Band, recording hundreds of songs in both Luo and Swahili. Hits like Lunch Time blended traditional rhythms with electric guitar, creating a distinctive sound that defined Kenyan music.
Throughout his career, Daniel preserved Luo musical traditions while introducing innovative techniques and instruments.
