Daudi Tonje
General (Rtd) Daudi Tonje was celebrated for his outstanding contribution to national defence, security, and stability in Kenya. As the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), he steered the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) through a transformative era, implementing far-reaching reforms that modernised and professionalised the military. Among his notable achievements was the introduction of mechanisms for peaceful military transition, ensuring stability and continuity in leadership. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Defence Staff College, a premier institution for advanced military training and strategic thinking. General Tonje also championed gender inclusivity in the armed forces, opening doors for women to serve in leadership positions, marry, and bear children while in service — a groundbreaking shift in the KDF’s culture.
Furthermore, he initiated the medical insurance scheme for service members, greatly improving the welfare and morale of personnel and their families.
