David Wanjohi

Captain David Wanjohi is a Kenyan aviation enthusiast turned tax strategist who steers complex fiscal matters for public and private-sector giants across East Africa. A Senior Manager in the Tax & Law team at Ernst & Young (EY) Kenya, he advises on direct, indirect, and international tax, guiding banks, manufacturers, multinationals, and government agencies through audits, restructurings, and dispute resolution.

Wanjohi holds an LLM in Law & Economics from University College London, is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, and a member of both the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Law Society of Kenya Tax Committee. Before joining EY he honed corporate-finance and real-estate expertise at a London City firm and later served Kenya’s National Treasury and several county governments on flagship infrastructure, agriculture, and energy projects.

His leadership and technical depth have earned multiple honours: Business Daily’s Top 40 Under 40 Men (2019) and EMEA Rising Star-Tax Disputes at the 2023 International Tax Review Awards. Away from spreadsheets he maintains his commercial pilot licence hence the “Captain”. He mentors young lawyers and accountants through EY Ripples and the Nairobi Aviation Club. Wanjohi’s mission is clear: shape policy and practice so that efficient, transparent taxation fuels Kenya’s long-term growth.
