Diana Esther Wangari

Dr Diana Esther Wangari is a Kenyan physician and social-impact entrepreneur transforming primary care through technology. After earning her MBChB from the University of Nairobi and practicing in public hospitals, she secured the Skoll Scholarship to complete an MBA at Oxford’s Saïd Business School (2018). While at Oxford she co-founded iSikCure, a mobile platform that matched patients with nearby doctors, pharmacies, and labs. The venture has since evolved into Checkups Medical Centre, where Wangari now serves as CEO.

Headquartered in Nairobi, Checkups combines walk-in clinics, tele-consultations, rapid diagnostics, and same-day medication delivery. The network operates nine micro-clinics across Kenya and Uganda and a central e-pharmacy hub that dispatches an average of 1,200 orders daily. A proprietary triage app guides community health workers, cutting unnecessary facility visits by 35 percent and catching treatable conditions earlier. In 2024 the company partnered with M-Pesa and Equity Afia to roll out a chronic-disease subscription that delivers monthly diabetes and hypertension packs for under KES 1,000.

Wangari sits on the board of Sagitarix Ltd., whose digital-health infrastructure powers services in six African countries. Named to Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 (2019) and Business Daily’s Top 40 Under 40 Women (2023), she mentors female med-tech founders and champions policies that bring affordable, data-driven care to underserved communities across East Africa.
