Dorothy Abade-Maseke

Dorothy Abade-Maseke is a Kenyan risk professional at the forefront of linking finance, biodiversity, and climate action in Africa. As Africa Lead for Nature Finance & TNFD at FSD Africa and Head of the African Natural Capital Alliance (ANCA), she guides central banks, insurers, and asset managers in quantifying nature risk, structuring biodiversity credits, and aligning with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). Her team is piloting Africa’s first sovereign nature-linked bond and supporting six stock exchanges to introduce voluntary nature-risk reporting by 2026.

Before joining FSD Africa in 2022, Abade-Maseke spent a decade at ICEA LION Group, rising to Group Head of Risk and Compliance. There she co-authored the Nairobi Declaration on Sustainable Insurance, committing 97 African insurers to integrate ESG and net-zero targets, and represented the continent on the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF).

A Fellow of the UK Institute of Risk Management, she sits on its global board, chairs World Vision Kenya’s audit committee, and advises the UN-convened Net-Zero Insurance Alliance technical working group. Accolades include Business Daily Top 40 Under 40 Women (2019) and Africa Insurance Top 50 Women (2023). Her 2024 book, Risk & Resilience in Emerging Africa, is now a reference text in four MBA programmes, underscoring her mission to embed nature and climate considerations in every African balance sheet.
