Dorothy Omondi
Dorothy is celebrated for her lifelong commitment and outstanding contribution to sports in Kenya, particularly in the field of netball. Currently serving as both a coach and an umpire, she continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of athletes. Her sporting journey began as a player, representing Kenya as a netball international from 1980 to 1987, during which she showcased exceptional skill, discipline, and dedication to the game.
One of the highlights of her illustrious career was her participation in the 1987 World Netball Championship held in Yugoslavia, where she played a pivotal role in helping the Kenyan team secure a bronze medal. That same year, during the All Africa Games hosted in Nairobi, Dorothy’s team achieved remarkable success by clinching the gold medal, marking a historic moment for Kenyan netball.
Her excellence on the court extended beyond the African continent, as evidenced in the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand, where her team once again earned a bronze medal. Through her career achievements and ongoing coaching and officiating roles, Dorothy has greatly contributed to the growth, visibility, and success of netball in Kenya, leaving an enduring legacy in the sport.
