Elias Jama Noor

Elias Noor was honoured for his pivotal role in the Peace Education Campaign Torch, recognized for his unwavering dedication to promoting peace during one of Kenya’s most challenging periods. In the aftermath of the 2007 post-election violence, which claimed over 1,000 lives and displaced hundreds of thousands of people, he emerged as a leading advocate for reconciliation and social cohesion. Through the campaign, Elias championed peace education, engaging communities in dialogue and awareness initiatives that sought to restore calm, rebuild trust, and foster mutual understanding among individuals from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

He paid particular attention to the well-being of children, encouraging their safe return to school and emphasizing education as a tool for healing and empowerment. By facilitating conversations, mediating conflicts, and mobilizing community leaders, he helped address the deep wounds left by the violence, contributing to the rebuilding of fractured communities. His tireless efforts extended beyond immediate conflict resolution, laying the foundation for lasting reconciliation and the promotion of a culture of peace. Elias’s work not only helped communities recover from trauma but also inspired a generation to embrace dialogue, empathy, and unity as essential pillars for sustainable social harmony in Kenya.
