Fredrick Odhiambo

Fredrick Odhiambo is a Kenyan accounting and governance expert who serves as Deputy Auditor-General in charge of Financial Audit Services at the Office of the Auditor-General (OAG). Appointed in 2020, he directs more than 1,200 auditors responsible for scrutinising the financial statements of Kenya’s 47 county governments, 290 national entities, and hundreds of state corporations. Under his watch the OAG has adopted a risk-based, data-analytics methodology that cut field-work days by 25 percent and boosted audit coverage to 92 percent of public expenditure in FY 2023/24.

Odhiambo holds an MBA from Strathmore Business School, a Master’s in Public Policy from the Kenya School of Government, and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Nairobi. He is a CPA-K, Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Financial Services Auditor, and Certified Government Auditing Professional. His portfolio includes leading landmark audits on COVID-19 emergency funds, sovereign Eurobond proceeds, and flagship infrastructure projects under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. He also chairs the AFROSAI-E working group on extractive-industry oversight and represents the OAG on INTOSAI’s Professional Standards Committee.

Passionate about capacity building, Odhiambo has trained over 500 public-sector accountants in forensic techniques and mentors youth through the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya’s student chapter. Outside work he is an avid marathoner and volunteers as treasurer of the Kenya Diabetes Prevention Alliance.
