George Omondi Oluoch
Dr. George Omondi Oluoch is being honoured for his exemplary leadership, groundbreaking research, and immense contribution in the fight against snakebite envenomation in Kenya. Recognizing the devastating impact of snakebites in rural communities, he spearheaded the establishment of a vibrant snakebite program that has transformed prevention, treatment, and awareness across the country. His work has included the development of new, effective anti-venom and the creation of a rapid response system to transport anti-venom to victims in remote areas, significantly reducing fatalities and long-term complications.
Beyond direct medical interventions, Dr. Omondi has played a central role in health policy formulation, advocacy, and resource mobilization. His tireless fundraising efforts have ensured that research, treatment, and training programs are sustained and accessible to communities most affected by snakebites. Through his leadership, lives have been saved in high-risk regions such as Baringo, Kitui, Samburu, Mbeere, and the Coast, areas that were once neglected but now benefit from timely interventions.
His vision and dedication culminated in the establishment of the Kenya Snakebite Research and Intervention Centre, now recognized as a government department under the Kenya Institute of Primate Research (KIPRE). This milestone reflects his lasting legacy of innovation, compassion, and commitment to saving lives.
