Gladys Mbeyu Mwamuye
Gladys was honoured for her exemplary dedication to the promotion and preservation of culture through the establishment of the Mijikenda Cultural Reservation Organization. Her vision in founding the organization was to safeguard the rich heritage, traditions, and practices of the Mijikenda community while creating a platform for cultural education and awareness. Under her leadership, the organization has become a hub for cultural dialogue, research, and community empowerment.
One of Gladys’s most notable achievements has been forging a strong partnership between her organization and Pwani University on cultural matters. This collaboration has provided opportunities for students, researchers, and community members to engage in meaningful exchanges about socio-cultural issues, heritage preservation, and the value of indigenous knowledge. Through workshops, exhibitions, and outreach programs, the initiative has impacted the community by equipping individuals with knowledge and practical skills to appreciate, protect, and promote their cultural identity.
Her work has not only revived interest in traditional practices but also inspired younger generations to embrace their heritage. By integrating culture with education and community engagement, Gladys has played a pivotal role in ensuring that the cultural wealth of the Mijikenda people remains vibrant and continues to be passed on to future generations.
