Hon. Gitu wa Kahengeri

Hon. Gitu wa Kahengeri is a respected figure in Kenya’s history, known for his unwavering commitment to the country’s liberation struggle. A courageous patriot, he stood firm against colonial rule and believed that freedom was worth every sacrifice. Because of his courage, he became one of the many heroes who risked everything to secure Kenya’s independence.

In 1950, Hon. Gitu took an oath in support of the Mau Mau Freedom Movement, a powerful resistance that united thousands of freedom seekers. From that moment, his life changed forever. He was arrested and spent nearly seven years in detention camps at Athi River and Manda Island. During this period, he endured torture and starvation. Even so, he remained strong and hopeful. His determination inspired others who shared his dream of a free and just Kenya.

After his release, Hon. Gitu continued to fight for the recognition of Mau Mau veterans. He believed their bravery deserved national honor and respect. As a result, his voice became a rallying call for justice and historical truth. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in preserving the stories of Kenya’s freedom fighters.

Later in life, he wrote his memoir The Betrayal of Mau Mau Freedom Fighters. Through this powerful book, he revealed the untold struggles and sacrifices made by those who fought for independence. Consequently, his work continues to educate younger generations about the price of freedom. Hon. Gitu’s life stands as a lasting reminder that true patriotism is measured by courage, sacrifice, and an unshakable belief in justice.
