James Munyeria
James Munyeria is a Kenyan tech entrepreneur and co-founder / Chief Operations Officer of Paytree, the Nairobi start-up behind Mzizzi—an end-to-end e-commerce suite that lets merchants launch fully branded webshops in minutes. Founded in 2021 with George Gachara and Carol Mweru, Paytree targets Kenya’s two million small and medium-sized enterprises that lack the capital or skills for custom sites. Mzizzi bundles storefront templates, M-Pesa and card checkout, real-time inventory sync, and plug-and-play logistics through partnerships with Sendy, Fargo Courier, and Pickup Mtaani.
Under Munyeria’s operational leadership the platform has onboarded 18,000 sellers, processed KES 1.7 billion in gross merchandise value, and cut average delivery time in Nairobi to 4.2 hours. In 2024 Paytree raised a US $1.8 million seed round led by Chandaria Capital and Pangea Trust and joined the Google for Startups Africa Growth Programme. A new AI catalogue builder rolled out in June 2025 now slashes product-listing time by 70 percent.
Munyeria holds a BSc in Business Information Technology from Strathmore University and previously managed distribution ops at Twiga Foods. He mentors youth through the AkiraChix CODEHIVE bootcamp and sits on the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce digital-trade taskforce. Away from keyboards he competes in ultramarathons and is restoring his grandfather’s coffee farm in Kirinyaga.
