John Mwangi Munyiri

John Mwangi Munyiri was honoured for his steadfast commitment to peacemaking and community reconciliation, particularly during periods of social unrest and conflict in Kenya. His leadership and courage were most evident during the 2007 post-election violence, a period marked by intense tension and division across the country. In the Sabaot area, John played a pivotal role in leading peace teams that worked tirelessly to mend relations between warring and neighbouring communities.

Through dialogue forums, mediation efforts, and community sensitization meetings, he helped restore trust, encourage forgiveness, and promote peaceful coexistence among groups that had long been in conflict. His work emphasized the importance of communication, empathy, and community-driven solutions to conflict. In more recent times, John extended his peacebuilding efforts to address contemporary challenges by engaging youth and communities during the Gen-Z demonstrations. His calm and inclusive approach encouraged constructive dialogue between young people, local leaders, and authorities, helping to prevent escalation and promote mutual understanding. Through his tireless dedication, John has emerged as a respected voice for peace, unity, and justice. His work continues to inspire others to embrace dialogue over division and to contribute to the creation of a more cohesive and harmonious society.
