Joyce Kamande
Joyce Kamande is a visionary Kenyan social entrepreneur and the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Safi Organics, a groundbreaking enterprise she launched immediately after graduating. Drawing from her own roots in Kenya’s semi-arid regions, Joyce developed a tech-enabled solution to food insecurity by turning agricultural waste into carbon-negative, village-level organic fertilizer tailored to local soils and crop needs.
Under her leadership, Safi Organics operates decentralized fertilizer production systems powered by IoT and patented torrefaction technology—boosting farmers’ yields by up to 30%, increasing their incomes, and restoring soil health. The venture supplies over 12,000 smallholder farmers in Kenya, employs more than 50 rural youth, and continues to scale through partnerships with cooperatives and OEM distributors to reach millions more.
Joyce holds a Master’s degree in Procurement and Logistics from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and serves as Kenya’s Thought For Food Ambassador, reflecting her leadership in sustainable agritech and youth empowerment.
