Katherine Oyieke

Dr.  Katherine Oyieke is a pioneering Kenyan neurosurgeon who made history as the youngest pediatric neurosurgeon on the African continent. A graduate of the University of Nairobi’s School of Medicine, she later earned her Master’s in Medicine from Aga Khan University, followed by a highly specialized fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at the University of Cape Town, one of the continent’s premier training centers for neurosurgical expertise.

Her journey has been marked by exceptional focus, resilience, and a deep commitment to improving children’s neurological health outcomes across Africa. Now based at the University of Cape Town, she not only practices but also teaches, running a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship program that is shaping the next generation of African neurosurgeons. Through her mentorship and curriculum design, she is expanding the continent’s capacity for complex, child-focused neurological care, a field long underserved in many African health systems.

Dr. Katherine’s impact extends beyond the operating room. She is a strong advocate for equitable access to pediatric neurosurgery, community education, and early diagnosis of neurological disorders in children. Her work stands as a powerful example of how African-led medical excellence can address both systemic gaps and individual lives, bringing healing, hope, and leadership to one of the most specialized areas of modern medicine.ram at the institution.
