Kelvin Macharia Kuria
Kelvin Macharia Kuria is a dynamic Kenyan entrepreneur who turned personal setbacks into an opportunity to innovate and transform security technology in East Africa. His entrepreneurial journey began at 15 after struggling academically and realizing that his future lay in business. Inspired by a family tragedy—his uncle’s vehicle hijacking—Kuria identified a pressing need for reliable security solutions for vehicles and buildings. With just $300 in capital, he founded Sunrise Tracking, a company specializing in vehicle tracking, fleet and fuel management systems, CCTV surveillance, and biometric solutions.
Under his leadership, Sunrise Tracking quickly gained recognition for its cutting-edge and user-friendly innovations. By 2015, the company was generating revenues of $80,000 and had established itself as a trusted security partner for businesses and individuals. Between 2013 and 2015, Sunrise Tracking was nominated for the prestigious CIO100 East Africa Awards, affirming Kuria’s role as a leader in technological innovation.
Beyond financial success, Kuria’s impact lies in creating practical, affordable tools that improve security, efficiency, and peace of mind for communities and businesses. His journey is a testament to resilience, vision, and the power of entrepreneurship to turn adversity into meaningful change. He continues to inspire young innovators across the region.
