Max Maina Muniafu

Maina was celebrated in 2023 for his remarkable dedication to sports and his outstanding contribution to the growth of rugby in Kenya. A true pioneer, he was part of the first-ever Kenya 7’s Rugby team that represented the country at the prestigious Hong Kong Sevens tournament in 1986, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s rugby history.

In 1987, Maina took on the role of Captain for the Kenya Simba Rugby team, a position he held until 1989. During his captaincy, he inspired his teammates through his exceptional leadership, discipline, and unwavering commitment to excellence. One of his most notable achievements was leading the team to win a silver medal at the All-Africa Games, a feat that brought pride to the nation and elevated Kenya’s status in continental rugby.

Following his playing career, Maina transitioned to coaching, taking charge of the Kenya Simba Rugby team between 1989 and 1993. Under his guidance, the team grew in skill, confidence, and competitiveness, laying a strong foundation for future generations.
