Maxwell Wahome
Maxwell Wahome is a Kenyan corporate strategist steering Longhorn Publishers PLC through a bold pivot from traditional textbook house to pan-African ed-tech provider. After a decade at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Nairobi and Johannesburg, where he advised listed companies on audit, tax, and cross-border transactions, he joined Longhorn in 2016 as Chief Finance and Operations Officer. Two years later he was elevated to Group Managing Director, charged with resetting growth after Kenya’s curriculum overhaul and shrinking print margins.
Wahome has since broadened Longhorn’s footprint to 15 markets, securing curriculum-approval status in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, and Cameroon while deepening presence in Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda. He spearheaded the launch of KICD-aligned Competency-Based Curriculum titles and e-Learning by Longhorn, a subscription platform that now hosts 4,500 interactive lessons in English, Kiswahili, and French and reaches 1.2 million learners across East and Central Africa. A 2024 partnership with Safaricom bundles the app with subsidised data and low-cost tablets, positioning Longhorn at the heart of Kenya’s digital-literacy drive.
Committed to governance and talent development, Wahome champions IFRS-aligned reporting, gender-balanced leadership, and an internal innovation lab that incubates teacher-authored content. He serves on the Publishers Association of Kenya’s digital-standards committee and mentors finance graduates through the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya. His mission: make quality, affordable learning resources available to every African child online and in print.
