Moses Nyakweba Okemwa

Moses Nyakweba Okemwa was recognized for his remarkable contribution to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage in Kenya. A passionate cultural enthusiast and philanthropist, he has dedicated his time and resources to safeguarding the traditions, values, and identity of the Abagusii community. His vision to keep culture alive in the modern era led to the establishment of a modern cultural facility, which serves as a hub for cultural education and community engagement.

The facility hosts monthly cultural talks, storytelling sessions, exhibitions of traditional artifacts, and a cultural museum, providing a platform where elders, scholars, and youth can interact, share knowledge, and celebrate their heritage. Through this initiative, Moses has successfully created a space for dialogue, learning, and appreciation of the community’s rich cultural legacy.

Furthering his mission, he is currently setting up Kisii traditional homesteads, designed to authentically represent the traditional way of life while serving as a living heritage site. These homesteads will act as a focal point for the promotion, preservation, and development of Abagusii culture, inspiring future generations to embrace their roots with pride. Moses’s efforts have positioned him as a leading advocate for cultural sustainability and community empowerment in Kenya.
