Mueni Saumu
Dr. Naomi Saumu stands out as one of Kenya’s few highly specialized pediatricians, with expertise in adolescent endocrinology and diabetology. Her work focuses on diagnosing and managing complex hormonal disorders in children and teens, particularly those related to the endocrine system such as Type 1 diabetes, thyroid disorders, and growth issues. These are often lifelong conditions that require not just medical treatment, but also emotional and educational support for families.
Dr. Saumu’s clinical excellence is matched by her advocacy and leadership. As the Secretary of the Paediatric and Endocrine Society of Kenya (PESK), she plays a key role in driving awareness, research, and professional training across the country. Her efforts contribute to building capacity in a critical but often underrepresented medical field.
Working in a space where access to specialized care is limited, Dr. Saumu provides hope to families whose children face chronic health challenges. She is passionate about demystifying endocrine conditions, making treatment more accessible, and training more healthcare workers to recognize and manage these disorders early.
Her mission goes beyond medicine—it’s about giving children with chronic conditions a fair chance at a healthy and full life. Dr. Saumu is truly a trailblazer in child healthcare in Kenya.
