Njeri Wa Ndugo was honoured for her courageous contribution to Kenya’s liberation struggle. She played a pivotal role in resisting British colonial rule and emerged as a powerful advocate for freedom and justice. As one of the pioneers of organized resistance, Njeri helped establish the Kikuyu Central Association, a movement that united the Kikuyu community in the fight for self-determination. Through her involvement, she mobilized local support, raised awareness about the injustices of colonial rule, and inspired others to join the call for independence. Her work laid the foundation for the national movement that would later bring freedom to Kenya.

Despite enduring brutal torture, imprisonment, and intimidation by colonial administrators and home guards, Njeri never gave up her cause. Her determination and resilience reflected the strength of Kenyan women who stood on the frontlines of liberation.

Today, her story remains a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by women in Kenya’s struggle for independence. Njeri Wa Ndugo is celebrated as a symbol of courage, leadership, and unwavering patriotism — a heroine who helped shape the nation’s path to freedom.
