Paulyne Wairimu Kamau
Dr. Wairimu was honoured for her outstanding leadership and remarkable contribution to the healthcare sector, particularly in the regulation of medical devices and diagnostics in Kenya. For the past 12 years, she has served as the head of the Medical Devices and Diagnostics Department at the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), where she has played a pivotal role in developing and strengthening the regulatory framework for medical devices in the country.
Her visionary leadership has positioned Kenya as a key player in the global regulatory arena. She successfully negotiated for the PPB to become a member of the International Medical Devices Forum, enabling Kenya to align with international standards and best practices. In a historic milestone, Dr. Wairimu spearheaded the signing of the first-ever agreement between Kenya’s PPB and the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA). This landmark cooperation and partnership on regulatory system strengthening marked a significant leap forward for Kenya’s healthcare regulation and placed the country on the global map for excellence in medical device governance.
Through her dedication, Dr. Wairimu has contributed immensely to improving access to safe, effective, and quality medical devices, ultimately enhancing patient care and public health outcomes nationwide.
