Purity Gakuo is the Chief Operating Officer and Co-founder of Kuuza Freezers, a Kenyan startup tackling one of the most critical infrastructure challenges in Africa’s food systems: cold chain access. At Kuuza, she leads operations, strategy, and scale-up efforts for the company’s flagship innovation, affordable, solar-powered freezers designed to preserve perishable goods in off-grid and underserved areas. The solution is particularly transformative for players in the fish and fresh produce value chains, where post-harvest losses remain high due to inadequate refrigeration.
With a strong grounding in sustainable development and supply chain management, Purity has helped position Kuuza Freezers as a mission-driven enterprise focused on food security, rural entrepreneurship, and climate resilience. Her role has involved not just manufacturing and distribution oversight, but also user training, after-sales service design, and community integration, ensuring the product delivers long-term value to smallholder farmers, fisherfolk, and market vendors.
