With over six years of experience in transport tech, Sonia leads product development and strategic alliances with banks, telecoms, and government agencies, creating innovative, inclusive booking and payment solutions for buses and trains. Under her leadership, BuuPass has achieved remarkable milestones: over 16 million travel tickets sold, US$100 million+ in total transaction value, and recognition through platforms like the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa and Google Black Founders Fund.
Her impact goes further—BuuPass recently won the prestigious “Most Innovative Online Travel Booking Solutions in Africa” award by International Explorer, acknowledged for tackling long-standing travel accessibility and payment challenges. Additionally, under her co-leadership, BuuPass was chosen to represent Kenya at the global Startup World Cup, where it will compete in San Francisco for a US$1 million investment—a first for the country.
