Wanji Ng’ang’a

Kenyan impact investor Wanji Ng’ang’a has spent fifteen years turning clean-energy ideas into bankable businesses that light up the last mile. As associate director of portfolio at Acumen East Africa, she shepherds a dozen social enterprises ranging from pay-go solar hubs to battery-swap e-motorcycles through capital raises, governance fixes and expansion into drought-prone counties, unlocking livelihoods for more than three million low-income customers.

Before Acumen, Ng’ang’a led Shell Foundation’s East Africa office, where she brokered catalytic grants and debt that pushed solar-powered irrigation and electric mobility from pilot to scale across Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. Earlier stints at SunKing, BioLite and the Global Off-Grid Lighting Association honed her talent for marrying product design with frontier finance; her campaigns have attracted over $120 million in blended capital and opened new markets from pastoralist trading posts to island fishing fleets. Trained in international business administration at USIU-Africa and certified in impact investing by Oxford, she is completing a master’s in development finance at the University of Cape Town while moonlighting as an angel investor in Nairobi’s climate-tech scene. Mother, mentor and marathon reader, Ng’ang’a now aims to seed a continent-wide pipeline of climate-resilient ventures that deliver both returns and renewable kilowatts.
